Our Story

Argate Farm has been many years in the making. After meeting at a local Young Farmers event over 20 years ago , now husband and wife John and Sophie Baines started out renting a small amount of land from Sophie's father George Moule. This enabled an exploration of John's passion for agriculture whilst still studying at Harper Adams
University. This business has changed and adapted trialing many different agricultural challenges over the years including lamb and beef production, calf rearing and fresh flower production.
For ten years John was able to further develop his real passion within horticulture and fresh produce whilst working as a farm manager for a large local producer. Now determined to plough his own furrow he has come back to farm the family farm and surrounding land to continue to pursue his ambition within agriculture and food production.
John's breadth and depth of knowledge and skills in soil health; crop production; agronomy; machinery adaptation (to name but a few) have enabled John to now develop and expand Argate Farm into a thriving enterprise. There are many more exciting projects now in development including a crop dehydration system and innovative refrigeration systems on site, all with the aim of improving efficiency and productivity whilst reducing waste.
The majority of land we are now farming has been farmed within Sophie's family and extended family for over one hundred years. Looking after the land and care taking it for the next generation is our primary goal.
